From design through fabrication, sustainability is built into everything we do. We minimize waste through efficient material use, reuse offcuts when possible, and ensure that all production scraps and damaged pieces are fully recyclable.
Materials
All StreetPlants products are built to last—designed for performance in public space, and fabricated using high-quality materials that withstand weather, wear, and time. We work primarily in Corten steel, aluminum alloy, and painted mild steel, offering both durability and design flexibility to suit each project.
Our preferred material for most installations is Corten steel, a weathering steel alloy known for its exceptional durability, low maintenance, and distinctive appearance. Over time, Corten forms a stable rust-like patina that protects the material from further corrosion, eliminating the need for painting or sealing.
We typically use ¼” or ¾" Corten steel, offering structural strength and long-term performance well beyond standard thin-gauge or galvanized steel. In fact, Corten steel products can outlast painted or galvanized alternatives by ten times or more, making it an ideal choice for demanding urban environments.
Why Corten?
Extended Lifespan: With an expected service life of multiple decades, Corten dramatically reduces the need for replacements—conserving resources, reducing waste, and lowering life-cycle costs.
Minimal Maintenance: Unlike painted or galvanized finishes, Corten requires little to no upkeep. Its natural patina protects against corrosion without flaking or peeling, and avoids the use of environmentally harmful coatings.
Recyclability: Our Corten components are made with high recycled-content steel, and at the end of their life, all pieces are 100% recyclable, contributing to a closed-loop material cycle.
Resilient Design: Built to endure harsh climates, impacts, and heavy public use, Corten products are ideal for streetscapes, bike infrastructure, and placemaking features with long-term reliability.

While Corten is our primary material, StreetPlants also works in:
Stainless steel – Resists corrosion and will last indefinitely outdoors. It has a high reflectivity, making it stand out against darker environments like soil and planting.
Painted Mild Steel – For projects requiring specific colours or finishes, we offer painted mild steel with a protective finish. Though less durable than Corten, this option can suit budget-conscious projects or decorative elements in sheltered environments.
Brass – Muntz metal brass is an alloy developed for salt water immersion that can last centuries without maintenance, slowly turning dark brown to green if left untreated.
Installation
StreetPlants products are engineered for longevity, and ease of installation. Our solid one-piece construction means that products can be removed and reused multiple times—often outlasting the sidewalks they’re installed in. The Integrated mount works in poured concrete slab, pavers, or even soft landscaping.
We offer two standard mounting options:
In-Ground Mounting
Installed 9 inches deep and grouted into place, this method provides maximum stability and is ideal for permanent or high-use applications.Surface Mounting
Attached with secure tamper-resistant hardware, this option allows for easy removal and reinstallation—ideal for locations with changing site needs or where surface conditions do not permit excavation.
